Savannah Block

Savannah Block is currently a second-year doctoral student in the Center for Writing Studies and Writers Workshop consultant.

Her research semiotically traces digital memetic evolution. She focuses on ways in which social capital of individuals accumulates as members of online groups demonstrate their meme knowledge. The consequences of these individuals indexing themselves as “in the know” and its pedagogical applications are of particular interest.

In 2019, Savannah earned her Master’s degree in English at UIUC and her work focused on the intersections of digital rhetoric and audience theory. Before attending graduate school, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and minor concentrations in French and Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She was a 2016 McNair Scholar and her work analyzed the critical thinking skills of writing center tutees in tangent with sessions that focused on a higher order thinking skills (HOTS) hierarchy.
